OUR CLASS
Welcome to Connections: Art and Science in the World Around Us! This website is designed to accompany the two Connections classes that meet weekly at Alternative Choices in Education (ACE), held on the campus of the McGroarty Arts Center in Tujunga, CA. There is an Older Edition of this class for 3rd-6th graders and a JR Edition for K-3rd so siblings can learn and explore the same topics, tailored to their age and development.
Here we will share resources and expand upon our class content, which will focus on exploring the exhibits and resources provided by the botanical gardens, science, and art museums around Los Angeles.
We're blessed to have an array of these incredible places around Los Angeles! Each month we'll dive into a different museum or garden, taking advantage of them by exploring the lessons and resources their exhibits, scientists, and curators provide, opening up curiosity and exploring knowledge that our students will be able to take with them on their next visit, in person!
Exploring a museum or science center can be quite overwhelming, regardless of age. With so many exhibits to explore and engage with, along with new knowledge and facts to absorb, it can be challenging to gain new meaningful understanding. By introducing concepts in the classroom first, we aim to help lay the groundwork for establishing and nurturing personal connections, fostering curiosity, and building insights into new information, even making learning exciting!
OUR TEACHER
Our weekly in-person class is led by Annmarie Nee, who has been with Alternative Choices in Education (ACE) since 2021, teaching classes in Science, History, Creative Play, and Social Justice.
Although ACE will not be hosting official field trips to visit the museums and science centers we are exploring, Annmarie will help to organize families who would like to visit the places we are learning about each month.
These visits will be flexible and open, inclusive to anyone our families want to bring along, with the hopes of fostering community and friendships.
